Lap time question ?

I noticed a strange thing after uploading my bicycle session into GC. Usually I use distance based automatic lap recording on and then press stop button in finish. Now it seems to be so that this last "manual" lap contains the whole route info:

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/133078316

There is this extra lap (#20) that contains the whole route info at the end and the summary calculations (distance, time) are multiplied by 2 (like cycling the route twice).

Handling of manual/automatic laps, does triggering of manual lap stop automatic recording and how is the manual lap time calculated ? What is the logic of displaying overlapping automatic and manual laps in GC ?

    The tcx file is actually corrupt. The ride started at 14:08:41 and you pressed STOP at 16:27:16.

    Just after 16:21:46 your gps did a very weird thing and copied the entire ride as one huge lap starting over at 14:08:41 thru 16:21:46 and stuck it in the file and then continued on with 16:21:51 etc to the end at 16:27:16.

    In 2009 my 705 started doing weird things with auto laps so I used the webupdater and reloaded the update I was using. That solved the problem.

    I split your file into 2 rides and have attached the files. One file has the laps up to when the file got corrupted. The other file has no laps and is a little longer.

    Thanks a lot for your help, Don! I just uploaded the fixed files and indeed they show what has happened:

    About calculating and displaying auto/manual laps, I'm still wondering how they are (or should be) measured... timeline examples below:

    Auto:------------1---------------2---------------3---------------4---------------5------------

    Manual:-----------------1----------------------------------2----------------------------------

    Result #1:------1------2-------3---------------4---------5----6---------------7-----------

    Result #2:------1------2----------------------------------3----4---------------5------------

    I guess then to provide correct view and summaries, the calculation is done so that no overlapping happens (Result #1).... and it is not possible to easily view the real manual laps or does the manual lap take the preference (Result #2) by interrupting the auto lap recording ?

    How about nested laps like:

    Lap(start:a1)
    Lap(a1:m1)
    Lap(m1:m2)
    >>>> Lap(m1:a2)
    >>>> Lap(a2:a3)
    >>>> Lap(a3:m2)
    Lap(m2:a4)
    Lap(a4:a5)

    By nesting the laps, it would be possible to view manual laps and also complete auto laps included within manual laps, only missing those auto laps that are interrupted by manual laps, also the same logic for manual laps that are completely included within auto lap.

    How does GC displays both lap times in one contiguous timeline table/gps track ?
    Can someone provide me a link into an activity view or correct tcx file that contains both automatic and manual laps ?

    I have only used auto laps by themselves. I never tried making any manual laps along with auto laps.

    I did read somewhere that when you do both the auto laps start over after each manual lap. I do not know if that is in fact true.

    Manual = A B C
    Auto = 1 2 3

    1----2----3-A----1----2----3----4--B----1----2--etc

    Hi, Is it possible to split my run in to two. I have done my best 10 KM and sad that I did not reset before starting again.

    Here is your activity split into 2 runs based on the dates.
