Vanishing Tracks and Waypoints

I have a GPSmap62s used for mountain biking.

The issue I want to discuss in this thread is waypoint and track files that are on my 62s but will not display.

At first I thought the issue was related to files that I had opened, modified, and saved using Basecamp. I've had trouble uploading tracks to Garmin Connect and found this thread in the forums. https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=22805

I've used Notepad++ as discussed in that forum to correct the encoding so that I could then upload them to Connect.

I also discovered at the same time, that I had files on my 62s which would not display in Track Manager. I discovered that once I opened them in Notepad++, and corrected the encoding, they would then display correctly on the unit. I thought that this issue was the result of opening them in Basecamp.

I have recently discovered that after being connected to my PC (I always use the "eject" for a USB before disconnecting the 62s) that some or all of my gpx files would no longer display on the unit. Yesterday all 41 track files, and several waypoint files would not display anymore. Had to laboriously open them all in Notepad++ to correct it.

    Hi all,

I've been having a similar issue with my Garmin GPSmap 62s (and a more fundamental issue of even being able to connect to my computer--even after some really kind folks have offered some clutch advice, I can still never get my device to show up as a USB drive in Windows Explorer). I have about 20 waypoints and 10 tracks that I need to update in order to set up research plots within the appropriate location. Now I can at least get my Garmin to show up as a device for BaseCamp and MapSource, but for some reason, both programs ONLY transfer one file, the Current Track, which is totally meaningless. I haven't been able to find any way to upload the rest of my tracks and waypoints so anymore experience/insight would be greatly appreciated! Additionally, FWIW, I heard that Google Earth is sometimes a workaround, but Google Earth doesn't recognize my unit (even when it's in Garmin Spanner interface mode, and neither the option to go into Mass Storage or stay out of Mass Storage works).

It's a shame because my Garmin has been fantastic in the field but without this data processing step, I may as well randomly throw bricks at my field sites to set points.

    OS: Windows 7
Computer: Dell Inspiron (not sure which edition but I have the one that offers an intel i7 processor)
    GPS: Garmin GPSmap 62s
    FMI about my unit's problems :-(((( --- https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?42514-Garmin-GPSmap-62s-device-never-shows-up-on-computer-(when-connected-via-USB)

    Thanks a bunch!
