Chrome OS Support

Hello everyone,

I am curious if there are any plans in the works to get a communicator working with Chrome OS?
I am participating in Bike & Build this summer and will be taking my Edge 500, but would like to pack a Chromebook instead of another laptop.

What's wrong with using the Chrome UA Spoofer plug in? Does it not work on a Chromebook?

I have the same question. Apparently the Garmin Communicator doesn't work with the Chromebook browser. Anyone know how to get around this or if there are plans to fix this?

Actually, being that you can't install software on ChromeOS, the problem lies in the fact that you won't have communicator at all.
I am looking for a way to have it work without having GC installed.

here's what i did to work around this on my chromebook:

    1. login to connect.garmin.com
    2. click "upload" in upper right corner
    3. click "choose file" and select file to upload
    4. click "upload activities from file"

granted, this only works for uploading individual files; it doesn't do want the GC plugin does with detecting all new files and uploading *all* of them.

How did you get the files onto your chromebook to upload. My chromebook doesn't recognize when the garmin is connected.

  • I did this yesterday at Best Buy. My Edge 500 connected in USB mode. Copy the activity FIT file to the Chromebook, then upload to Garmin Connect. Much to my surprise it works perfectly. I'll be buying one of the new Samsung 3G ones before my summer trip.

Hi Bbrannon -- can you explain how you copied the FIT file to the chromebook? It may be because I'm using a super old Forerunner 205 but my Chromebook doesn't seem to recognize a connection to my device (or the availability of any FIT files) when I plug it into the USB. Sounds like Doug may be having the same problem.

    Thanks!

After reading https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/chromebook-central/dw_0swLYexU it looks like the problem is just that my device (Forerunner 205) isn't mounting. It could very well be related to the fact that it's a super old device with a less generic USB connection or something.

Is it possible to upload your files to a chromebook using the ANT agent? I just purchased a chromebook and want to upload my files from my Garmin 410 to my garmin connect. Is there any way to do this?
