nuvi 2460lt software update

Just purchased a nuvi 2460 and set up "myDashboard". There was an indication that a software update was avaailable, so I proceeded to perform this update which performed as per I would expect, however the process to restart the 2460 was somewhat unclear. "myDashboard" restarted and indicates that a software update is still available so i'm reckoning that it did not go ahead....anyone show some light on this for me please.

The 2640 appears to be either different or problematic in ths regard.

After an update, you should unplug the GPS and it should do a shutdown/restart procedure. My 1450 does it, but the 2460 just switches off! I have asked Tech Support about this, and the replies have been non-helpful.

I don't think they care or can be bothered to test this for themselves.

I also updated the maps to 2012:30 and most of the hospitals have disappeared from POI. That will be really great if there is an emergency while in a strange city!

Again, Garmin tech support doesn't care, they just keep repeating "update the maps", yet I have the latest maps! A test in the store where they updated their demo unit did the same thing - confirmed that the newest maps are the problem.

Garmin tech support reply to this new info is to do nothing for a couple of days then suggest I run windows diskcheck on the GPS. This reported no problem of course.

So, don't update your 2460 to the latest maps if hospitals are important to you, and don't expect much from Garmin tech support.

Their sales people are actually more helpful and have lodged a proper fault report, but it probably won't achieve much as Garmin won't break their 3 monthly update cycle just to fix a problem that could save a life.
  • Nuvi 2460LT software update

    Hi,

I noticed the same thing when updating my new 2460LT (namely that it kept showing there was a software update). When the instructions for the update process pop-up (The ones which tell you to unplug the device and it should restart on it's own, and to shut it back down and then re-connect to the computer). You will see that there is small print stating that certain models you have to disconnect and do a manual restart and shutdown, this includes the 2460!

I disconnected from my Macbook Pro, shutdown, restarted, accepted licence information, then shutdown and reconnected to Mac. Then click done on the update process once you device has mounted again, and the dashboard should now show your device has the latest software and that there are no further updates.

This is what worked for me anyways.
