All my Favorites have changed to numbers

I have a Garmin 1450LMT. When I first got it, I did a map update. Worked great. Took two trips with it and worked without any problems. That was a month ago. Was getting ready to take another trip, entered the location and did two trips by letting it run on it's own. Worked great. Day before I was to leave, turned on the unit and all my favorites turned into numbers. What happened? Have contacted Garmin and did a software update. Did not help.
Any ideas on how to get my favorites back the way they were? Oh, you guessed it. I didn't do a back up.

... turned on the unit and all my favorites turned into numbers.

It is not clear from your description but are you sure your favorites were changed or did a lot of favorite categories appear? Try scrolling down, to the bottom of the list, to see if your actual favorites still exist.

This seems to be a long standing bug, with the 13xx and 14xx models, although it seems to occur much less frequently with the latest firmware (v5.40).

I have not been able to determine the exact cause of the issue but it seems that the \GPX\Current.gpx file gets corrupted (a symptom not the cause) and that many bogus favorite categories (names are numeric such as 271.4) and favorites (timestamp like names) are created. However in my experience the actual favorites still exist.

There are two solutions that I use to fix the problem. Which I use depends on the number of bogus favorites/categories created. If there are a small number (<=10) I just manually deleted them in the unit. However many times this is not the case. In that circumstance I copy the \GPX\Current.gpx file from the unit and manually fix it. As I say its most likely corrupt and therefore will not open in MapSource/BaseCamp/3rd party program. That said it is just an XML file so if you have a good text editor and/or XML utility you can probably fix it and recover your favorites.

Assuming you have a backup or have fixed your Current.gpx file you can delete ALL data in the unit and then copy your backup GPX file to \GPX\temp.gpx and reboot your unit. This should restore your favorites.

I prefer the "delete ALL data" method because it seems to fix whatever data corruption occurred in the unit.

I know this all sounds complicated and maybe beyond your level of knowledge. If that's the case the solution is to delete ALL data and recreate your favorites.

PS: I routinely copy the \GPX\Current.gpx file from the unit so I have a backup of my favorites.

    Favorites

My Firmware and software are both up to date. Yes all my Favorites turned to numbers, but I guess are still there. I say guess because I have more than I started out with and have no idea where they came from.

I will just figure out what I have and write them down and erase what I have and start over, unless someone else has an idea.

    Thanks

OK, so can anyone tell me why, after deleting my current.gpx file, the favorites are still there?

OK, so can anyone tell me why, after deleting my current.gpx file, the favorites are still there?

Because the current.gpx file is read-only. That is the unit creates that file so PC/Mac applications can read data from the unit. The unit does NOT read information from it.

If you don't believe me delete the current.gpx file, disconnect and reboot your unit, and then reconnect it. You'll see a new (recreated) current.gpx file.
