Route looks OK but is to the right on the map

I have downloaded my GPS data (Edge 500) on both the Training Center and Garmin Connect and both show my route OK but it is not on the road itself when viewing it. Do I need to syncronize somehow or setup the device in some way. It looks like I'm basically a few hundred meters right from where I should be?
  • I experienced the same problem too some weeks ago. Nothing much to do about it except monitoring I feel. Now everything seems fine. Weird I must say.
  • Not weird at all - it is quite common for additional GPS inaccuracy to be added in by the satellite owners if a military exercise is underway somewhere nearby. In fact, a few GOS satellite signal were deliberately jammed in one area of the UK last week and it caused a bit of chaos for fisherman who mistakenly had relied solely upon it.
  • You are also assuming a good correlation between the map and GPS. The map may not be in the same position as the GPS. GPS is a spatial reference to a terrestrial feature. A map is a representation of such features and cannot be guaranteed, not should it be assumed, to exactly match with a GPS reference.
