Etrex vista shuts itself off in UK

I recently experienced something very strange with my etrex vista. I am based in the US and recently visited the UK. Prior to traveling I used my vista to go geocaching and retrieve a travel bug to take with me to England. The unit worked just fine. While in the UK my vista would shut itself off when I tried to select the navigation page. Every other page worked just fine. I could see my waypoints on the map page which is ultimately what I had to use to find my geocaches. I tried selecting the navigation page by doing a go to, by using the click stick and by using the pages button. Every time the navigation page was selected the unit immediately shut itself off. I tried removing the batteries and restarting but then I couldn’t recalibrate the compass since it is on the navigation page. My vista is about 7 years old running software version 3.80 which is the latest for this unit. And now that I am back in the US, the unit is working perfectly!! No problem going to the navigation screen. Garmin tech support was unable to explain this. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Did you have any European maps, routes or POI's loaded to the device? If so if there could be corruption either in the map data or on the card you are using. Also if you had loaded any routes or POI's, same thing it sounds like corruption of that data. Since the navigation system will look for maps, routes, POI's etc (Basically any GPX files) that are in the vicinity of your current location, it is possible that it would shut down while in the UK but not in the US where it is not trying to access those files. If I where you I would plug the eTrex into BaseCamp, save any information you want then master reset the unit. With the power off press and hold the "Page" and enter buttons and then power the unit on. It will ask if you want to erase all user data, select "Yes" and enter.

I don't have any maps loaded. Also my vista is too old to have an SD card and doesn't store any files. I had preloaded waypoints for the geocaches I wanted to find. Garmin tech support also suggested I do a master reset, but then they also suggested I upgrade my software after I told them I had the latest version running.
