Fail to download GPX file via "GC Manual Download"

I too am experiencing a failed download, when it has worked successfully in the past. I can download from my device but not manually. What is going on?

GC is designed to upload files from Garmin devices, not arbitrary gpx files. You can upload this route if you first convert it to a tcx history file using TCX Converter.

Fail to UPload GPX file via "GC Manual UPload"

    Clarification on my last post
Manual upload fails whether it be a gpx file or tcx file.
The source of my gpx & tcx file is Basecamp.
The error:- "An error has occurred with your upload. Please try again"
The upload appears to happen, however, the connection to the site fails. This is indicated by the Google Chome activity indicator in the lower LH corner of my screen.
I tried a workaround whereby I copied a Basecamp generated gpx file into the units (O550)/garmin/gpx folder and uploaded via the unit upload feature of GC and it worked. However, it ignored my HRM and Cadence observations.
Any solutions are welcome as the manual feature has worked in the past.
    While I'm at it,
    - Unit uploads do not allow for saved tracks, only "current" tracklogs. I can create more than one (saved) tracklog in a day. I generally use Basecamp to vet my tracklogs prior to upload anyway.
    - Is there any plans for other wireless devices, i.e. a temperature sensor?
    Cheers,
    Garmin Oregon 550 user

If you export the file from Basecamp as a tcx file and then convert the tcx file to a history track using TCX Converter then you will be able to upload it to GC.
  • failure to upload manually

i have the same issue as Ohallos...

surely there must be a solution using only Garmin Software....not going via some shareware option

i used basecamp to get a track off my garmin; i cannot upload it manually using garmin.connect.... seems very odd

Here's another thread reporting problems importing files into GC that came from Basecamp:

Fail to UPload GPX file via "GC Manual UPload"

@JONEISEMAN thankyou for your reply, however, your thread link is to old. I was successfully using manual upload in June 2011 with gpx files from Basecamp. I believe there is an issue with connecting to GC using manual upload. What has happened to the software between June 2011 and Sept 2011 to remove this function? I've tried to upload using Google Chome, IE & Firefox and have all failed.

Fail to UPload GPX file via "GC Manual UPload"

I think I've narrowed down the problem. I suspect it to be in the header information of a gpx file generated from Basecamp v 3.2.2 (updated on my PC recently)
Cooper St Control.gpx file is generated from Basecamp v 2.0.8 and will upload via manual upload :)
    AND
oldWorri Yallock to Mt Lilydale RC College.gpx is generated from Basecamp v 3.2.2 and will not upload manually .
Mr Garmin do you have a solution as to why the software is now not integrating?

    Failed GC manual Upload workaround

Mr Garmin I am still encountering a failed manual upload from my Garmin Oregon 550 , however, I've persisted and have developed a workaround ;).
It appears GC doesn't like the gpx format produced from Basecamp and from the O550 saved tracks path.
    The workaround is;
    - Save your tracklog on O550 using Track Manager
    - Join your O550 to your PC via USB
    - select mass storage device
    - edit your tracklog directly from the GPX drive path folder on the O550 using Basecamp
    - remove O550 from your PC
    - turn on O550
    - Go to Track Manager and Archive Track
    - reconnect O550 to your PC via USB
    - select mass storage device
    - Log on to GC
    - The O550 will be recognised by GC, however, only new tracks are recognised, not saved or archived; forcing the user to manually upload.
    - Manually upload your tracklog via the archive drive path folder on the O550.
It has worked for me on Chrome, IE and i assume firefox.
I believe the reason for archived track on O550 works is that the GPX format appears to have no carriage returns, compared to the saved tracks on O550.
Until Garmin upgrade GC to recognise saved & archived tracklogs directly from the GPS (Oregon 550) unit  this laborious process will have to be followed.
