GPS "Black Hole"?

I experienced a malfunction with my Garmin nuvi 260W GPS over the weekend that I never experienced before. We were attending a Wedding in Moorpark, CA 93021, at a multi-acre facility out in the country. GPS worked perfectly getting me from LAX to the Thousand Oaks area. It also got me to the place where the Wedding was being held, but halfway down the dirt road to the building where the wedding was being held, my GPS said "Recalculating"...and stopped recalculating.
When we were ready to leave, I reprogrammed the unit back to my Brother's house in Thousand Oaks, and hit "GO". From that point on, and for the next 30-60 minutes, it gave me nothing but totally erroneous directions (Told me LEFT, when it should have been RIGHT; directed me into a gated community with a Guardhouse, etc.). We finally had to retrace our steps, and have someone draw us a map to get us home. The next day, the unit worked perfectly.
I'm stumped. Is my unit on it's last legs? It's about three years old. Maps were updated in 2010. The only reason that I could think of is that the facility where the wedding was being held was about 1/2 mile or more from any real streets, but even when we left the facility, I tried reprogramming it several times, and it continued to give me erroneous directions.
