Q. Regarding GC Workout step types

What's the difference between the recovery and rest step types in the Garmin Connect workout editor. Which should I use? GTC doesn't have those, just a checkbox to select if it is a resting step or not.
(I have a FR305)

i think recovery refers to a low effort activity and rest is means no activity at all.

New FAQ's have been added covering Workouts and Courses.

This is copy/pasted from the Workout FAQ:

Recovery-a period of lighter activity between more intense steps.

Rest-a period of lighter activity between more intense steps. Rest steps are notincluded in the Garmin Connect performance evaluation.

The FAQ's can be reached via the Help screen. You might want to check those out.

They rolled-back the feature. The FAQ is gone.
What I was trying to understand, and didn't clearly ask, is: When I load it to my 305, it will have zero effect, whichever of these I choose, right?
It will only change the behavior of the post-run, on-site viewing/analysis.

Yes, that is how I interpret the FAQ.
