Garmin Connect displays straight line to finish every 'lap'

Hi,

Recently (my last 3 runs), Garmin Connect has plotted straight lines back to the 'finish' at each lap (set to 1km).

For example: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/102859564

This is using a Forerunner 205.

I've read that not getting a sat fix properly before starting can cause this, but, I have a perfect sat fix way before and during the run, and it's only occurring exactly on each 1km/lap.

And it's also only occuring in Garmin Connect -- when I receive the run from the device into Garmin Training Center (Mac), the map plot is correct, no errand straight lines.

I've had it for a few years, and haven't changed anything in the way I upload them to Garmin.... just started happening...

Any suggestions or ideas, most appreciated.

Thanks
Rob
  • This is the third time I've recetnly seen this problem. I doubt that it has anything to do with the quality of your GPS, but beyond that, I don't know what causes this.

    Hi Rob,

If it makes you feel any better I'm experiencing the exact same problem as you:

    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/103518552
    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/103518552
    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/102042044

This is happening to me on a 405 and the exact same symptoms as you described; only happens on Garmin Connect, the data is fine on my iMac in Garmin Training Center. I've only owned the watch for about a month but it worked perfectly fine for about 15 runs and then for some unknown reason the data is all weird in Garmin Connect for my last 3 runs. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I might try resetting the device. If I find a solution I'll let you know, please let me know too if you find something. Thanks

PS - I noticed that the "average moving pace" for both of us is completely off.. not sure if this is contributing to the problem or just a symptom of the problem.

I'm having this problem with my NEW Forerunner 610 and had it last week with my old Forerunner 310XT. I am convinced it is a problem with Garmin Connect, not the watches as all is fine in GTC, but totally screwed up in GTC. Also, I cannot upload from either device to Garmin Connect but have to do it manually. Get a "server error" every time I try. Garmin Support has had me do hard resets, redownload software, reinstall, etc., etc., but nothing fixes it so I'm sure it's Garmin Connect and I'm about ready to give up on it. They keep telling me it's my device, but other people are posting about the upload problems too and I think they are just ignoring it.

It's not your 610. This is something that has just started happening recently, and will hopefully get fixed soon.

There are two workarounds you can do. If you use Garmin Training Center, you can transfer an activity directly from there to Garmin Connect very easily (on the Mac version, go to File > Send "<activity name>" to Garmin Connect). Another method is to go to Garmin Connect, and manually upload the activity from your computer to Garmin Connect. The trick here is to find the .fit file on your computer. There are posts here on these forums that can explain how to find the .fit file on your computer, depending on whether you are using Windows or a Mac. These should work until they can sort out this problem.
  • Using Garmin Training Center is not a workaround, in fact it's the only way for me to upload since I get "server error" the normal way with my 310XT after upgrade to firmware 3.70.

The very first interval workout after firmware upgrade from 2.90 to 3.70 is not handled properly by Garmin Connect, uploaded from GTC:

    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/105133730

There are extra lines from the endpoints of the interval path back to the starting point. Looks alright in GTC and using other sites that supports the Garmin format. The other graphs are unreadable.

Also, Garmin Connect still reports that I have firmware 2.90.0.0, after upload of data after upgrading to 3.70. The device reports 3.70.

Is the manual upload from Garmin Connect only available for certain devices or in certain regions? I can't find such an option using my 310XT in Europe/Sweden. I'm using Mac OS X Lion with the latest available versions of Garmin ANT Agent and GTC.

I can confirm that the problem of straight red lines appearing happens when uploading from within the program Garmin Training Centre, but does NOT happen when you upload directly on the website connect.garmin.com

I am using a Macbook Air with Mac OS Lion.

Oddly enough, I get the problem whenever I do upload manually. I cannot upload through GTC--there's no "File - Send" option in my menu. So each of my workouts has the lines from the beginning to the start of each lap, plus the bizarre lines through the graphs.

I've started trying to go through the .tcx export files manually (since they're just XML) to see if there's some spurious points...but it's a tedious process.

I am using a MacBook Pro with OS Lion. Any suggestions would be great.

If I install the GC communicator plugin and use Firefox--uploading the data automatically, rather than manually through Chrome--the errors vanish and the data looks good.
