2460LMT startup time

hi Everyone,

I recently bought a 2460LMT, and like the features but I'm disappointed with the unit's startup time. Compared to my 1490LMT, the 2460 takes twice as long to start up. On the 1490, the warning message appears after about 9-10 seconds, while on the 2460 it takes 18-20 seconds for the warning message to appear.

Those of you with a 2460LMT, can you please post your unit's startup time? I'd like to know if this is normal. Thank you.

Anyone? Any 2460LMT owners? Your startup time?

My 2460LMT takes 9 secs after power is applied (I turned it ON manually with switch) to get the "Loading Maps" advisory at the bottom of the display and then another 30 additional secs before the "Warning" advisory is displayed...39 secs total. This is very repeatable on my unit since I performed this test 4 times with the same results.

Appreciate your feedback, thanks! Strange that yours takes longer than mine, and in another forum I had responses that some were shorter, under 20 seconds, while another person said 48 seconds. Mine is consistently 29seconds to get to the Warning screen. May be has to do with which maps are loaded on the unit? (I have the latest updated map on it, all of USA and Canada, and parts of Mexico) Or what satellites are available in any locale? I don't know...
But, I'm considering returning the unit because of its slow startup. I find it annoying to have to sit in my car for 30 seconds before I can start finding my destination and get going. May be that's picky, but it's just me. I can tell you that it feels like a huge difference from the 1490 which gets to the warning screen in half the time, with the same map update installed!!! Your thoughts?

My 2460LMT takes 30s (actually timed it with a stop watch) to finally get the "Warning" message after loading the maps. This is very, very frustrating and I am considering returning it! I tried a 3790LMT a couple weeks ago and it was nearly instantaneous!

Agreed, startup is much too long.

You mention the 3790. Trouble is, the 3790 is far too inferior to the 2460 in its feature set. Specifically, the 3790 does NOT have customizable avoidances. These features are key to have in my opinion, as they allow you to tell the Nuvi to avoid certain sections of road on a route. For instance, going to work I know of a 3 mile strech of road that is always backed up. I simply told the 2460 to avoid this stretch of road and it then calculates the best route excluding that section of road. Similarly, custom detours allow you to on the fly tell the 2460 to avoid the next 0.5 miles, or 1.5 miles, etc, and it will then calculate a route around the section you want to avoid. Also key to have if you find yourself stuck in traffic somewhere and want to go around it.

And the 3790 does not have either custom avoidances or custom detours. So for these reasons I'm torn. I will probably return the 2460 and wait until the holiday season when new models will likely come out. I won't buy the 3790 because it's lacking important features.

    your thoughts?
