downloading maps for Europe

Yesterday I purchased the download for the Europe Maps on the garmin website. I bought a 4 GB Micro SD Card, plenty of space for these maps.

I have, however, tried to download/install them three times and each time it times out after hours. I get the following message at approx 25%

"method with the requested number of arguments not found (session may have timed out)"

can anyone help?

Europe maps fails for me too

I have never seen such a poor service as the download maps from Garmin. As far as I am concerned it stops shy of not working at all.
After hours of downloading the application says "error parsing...something".
Back to ground zero.
Downloading again and the 'remaining time' lies. "1 minute, 2 minutes, 48 minutes" and then back to 12 or 49 or some such. Yes, I understand it's telling the remaining time of the file chunks that are downloading but it's misrepresenting what I want to know. Also, why doesn't the application pick up where it left off if a download fails? Why can't I download to my uSD card directly? Garmin should put as much effort into providing a good user experience as they do into protecting the rights management of their software. It's ridiculously slow, unreliable and the instructions difficult. I'll be babysitting my system all night to ensure it doesn't go to sleep so that the file can be downloaded.

I downloaded a Topo GB map the other day and it took about 20 minutes Today I am downloading road maps for Europe I have a 50 mega internet download speed So for this European map has been downloading for the best part of an hour the download is coming in at any rate from o.oKB to 400 KB I would say that there are serious problems with their server or it is overwhelmed with usage. I did a speed test on my browser (Safari ) and I was getting download speeds of 51 Megs and Up load speeds of 5 megs .
My computer does not like this since she will probable have to be kept awake like Saratoga guy.

So Garmin sort your server out and whilst your at it why do I have to have 4 apps to do what just one should do and why when I sign into Spain it then goes into Italian or worse Turkish thankfully I can copy & paste to google translate . Its time to sort the web links as well as the computer software .

Exactly the same problem with new Garmin 810 and Euro citymaps. If I don't get a fix from Garmin I will demand my money back; why flush the cash away ?

Worth saying again that issues with maps not downloading are invariably due to a problem with the users computer and not Garmin. I along with many others have never had an issue downloading maps, updates etc.

It would be helpful if you could more acurately describe what you did and what the issue is, as the thread above raises a few queries.

I have had the same issue with my Europe maps. I am running an XP SP3 machine to my edge 810 with an 8GB SD card. Update starts normally, runs very slowly for anywhere between 1 to 3 hours. Progress gets to about 34% then the number goes negative and starts decreasing until the message on method with requested arguments not found, time out possible occurs.

Yesterday (well actually overnight as it took so long!) I downloaded my first free Nuvi map update for my new 3598LMT-D, from my home in the UK.

It worked but was so slow due to the massive size of the download. My modem displayed 5.05 GB used this month, just after starting the download and 11.28 GB in the morning. So why 6.23 GB for only an update?

As a retired programmer, who has written software for regularly updating customer's data, I can't start to understand why so much data was needed for only an update.

After this, I was offered the option to use the maps on my computer with programs such as BaseCamp. When I proceeded, another download started and after a while, I cancelled. Again, why does it require another download to use maps already downloaded?

Garmin should consider returning to the way maps are used on a computer and a GPSr as when using MapSource.

Not sure why it's so large/took so long either. I recently downloaded the update to my GPS and the whole thing completed in under an hour, including files to PC for Mapsource/Basecamp. Note the map files used by Basecamp are exactly those used by Mapsource, so there is no difference. You may have some PC issues :)

I've been using MapSource since I bought my 2610, back in 2004. which included CDs with CN EU. Easy installation and no problems. I bought a few yearly updates on CD/DVD and no problems. Navigation was included until removed in later versions.

I bought CN EU DVDs with both my 76CSx and eTrex Vista and still no problems. I evaluated BaseCamp when it first appeared, but dismissed it as it was (and still is) too clumsy and and impossible to manage ones data.

Then I bought a Montana 650t and CN EU on DVD and the problems started. No MS on the disk and unable to get the maps on the Montana to work. But OK in MS.

Garmin UK telephone support had great difficulty getting it correct, wanting to use BC all the time. Eventually I was asked to run MS and provide feedback. With that they were able to e-mail me the missing files needed on the Montana.

If manufacturers produced better GPSrs then Garmin would loose sales.

In the past it was easy to upload a selection of wanted waypoints to a GPSr using MS, by clicking a single icon. Now it's a major exercise. So far I can't find anything about waypoints on the 3598.

However the Android app does allow the transfer of locations by Blue Tooth to the 3598, but again probably another major exercise!
