Map Downloads Problem

I have purchased a map from Garmin's website and after the files were installed on my micro SD Card on my GPSMAP 62st. When I switch the device, the screen freezes on '...loading waypoints' etc......

I contacted Garmin Support but were not very supportive. I believe Garmin is in the way of decline with all these problems.

    Step one:
Take the microSD card out and see if the GPS works.

If that helps, then the problem is with the downloaded map. Make an archival copy of what's on that card (to your computer or burn a DVD), reformat the card and try the download again. Now it could also be the size of the map you downloaded that caused the problem as your 62st has those 100k maps on board. Try it with the minimum acceptable at first and see if that helps.

When I remove the sd card, the device works perfectly. In my device I have already installed detailed Bird's Eye Imagery which files are in the device's memory. I formatted the sd card several times but in vain. I discovered that the downloaded file is 2.27Gb whilst the Garmin file is 2.21Gb.

I did not understand what you said ".....Try it with the minimum acceptable at first" ?????

    Thanks and most helpful.

You have probably exceeded the maximum number to map tiles on your unit. You need to download a smaller area.
  • How can I download a smaller area?

I guess you can't but it is a guess as you did not specify which map you have downloaded.

There is another possibility, remote though. Look on your card and see if there is a GPX folder. Copy this folder in an archive on your computer and then delete the GPX folder off the card.

Try the GPS with the card. It might work.

Are you by any chance using a Mac?
