Is merging 2 hikes into one file possible ?

Hi
Last weekend we completed the Caledonian Challenge (54 miles walk in 24h in Scotland). Because batteries don't last that long we had 4 units (different models) amongst the 6 of us. Does anyone know if it is possible to take the different files and merge them into a single one that would make up the 54 miles ?

I managed to download all the data from the dashboard onto an excel spreadsheet but no idea how to upload the data I merged manually back onto the dashboard. Any help/advice much appreciated.

By the way, if anybody is interested, the 310XT lasted just over 17h26m and died literally past the finish line (we completed the 54 miles in just under 20h).

    Yes.

    If you can attach all 6 files from the different units to a post here someone will combine them into 1 complete file.

    Zip the files down to use the attachment process for this forum.

    If all 6 files are in the same Garmin Connect account then just give us a link to one of them and someone can take it from there.

    Do you want the original files from the units or the merged files in xls format ?

    original files. only 2 of them are necessary and cover the 54 miles

    Here ya go.
    I removed the heart rate and the 1000 meter laps.
    I loaded the file into Garmin Training Center and Garmin Connect before sending it out.

    Thank you so much for this.

    Couple of questions. Am new at these things so what do you mean when you said you loaded into garmin training centre and garmin connect ? Is there a centralised loading facility that doesn't require personal log in ?

    Also, why did you take out the lap splits ? was that the only way to make the merger between the 2 files possible ?

    GTC is free software from Garmin that you install on your computer and use to transfer activities between your gps and computer. All your data remains on your computer under your complete control.

    GC is a free off site database maintained by Garmin that allows you to save your activities in their system protected from any computer failure you might suffer. GC requires you to set up a free account with a personal login password. GC also allows you to send a link for your data to anyone and they in turn can then view your activity or download it to their computer or their gps.

    So I used my computer to access those 2 programs and tested my new file on them. If a file will load into those 2 programs then it will load into anything including your gps.

    I removed the 1000 meter splits for my convience. I will see what happens if I leave them in. The 310 was using a footpod and the 405 was not so it might not work. I was being lazy, but I agree, the splits would be nice. :o

    Check back in an hour or so.

    Well it is too much work to change the xml format to combine the 2 tracks with 1000 meter splits.

    I edited the 2 tracks so that the first one recorded with a 405 ends very near where the second one recorded with a 310 starts. So you have 2 tracks with splits covering the entire ride.

    Many, many thanks again for doing this.
    Would be nice to learn how you did it. Is there a "manual" or "teach in" somewhere on the net that I can download ?
    By the way, the guy with the 310 was not using any footpod. If any data looks erratic it would be because of his state of tiredness at that time ! . . . ;-)

    You are welcome.

    As far as learning how to edit I did it by trial and error using Wordpad. I would take a tcx file that I knew worked and open it up along side the corrupted file and look for strange code. Then use "Find and Replace" to fix it. I use the same method to cut portions out of working files that I want shortened or add portions to make longer like I did to make your Caledonian Challenge file.

    Very strange about the Footpod. Below is a piece of the tcx file from the 310XT. I do not use one so maybe I am misunderstanding the code but the file is full of these Extensions.

    <Extensions>
    <TPX xmlns="www.garmin.com/.../v2" CadenceSensor="Footpod">
    <Speed>2.3300002</Speed>
    </TPX>
    </Extensions>
