I've been happily using Garmin Connect for a couple of weeks, but now when I click on the Activities button I only see a quick edit screen for all the activities with no visible way of drilling down to see the detail of each activity anymore?? There used to be a hyperlink for each activity on this screen so that you could drill down?? What have I done??

What browser (and operating system) are you using?
I think that the first thing that I would try is clearing the internet cache.
I have the same problem, in the Activities screen I am missing the first column which had the hyper link, I believe the Title of the activity. Therefore, I can't actually see the details of any activity. Windwos XP, tried both Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. I've noticed this problem in the last week, and I did not change any settings, neither in Garmin Connect nor on my computers (the problem occurs no matter what computer I use to access Garmin Connect).
I just had the same issue. You have to use the column picker (click on the right edge of any column header) and include the Activity Name column which is also a hyperlink. Garmin needs to make the entire row a hyperlink or add a "Detail" link/column.
