Garmin Nuvi not displaying individual map icons

First off, I'm sorry if this is a silly question or is answered somewhere else. I've tried to find a solution but clearly haven't been successful which has led me here.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 1450. I have a lot of different favourites saved: some geocaches, some addresses, different points of interest, and I have them saved with different map icons so they are easily identifiable while driving. However, now they all just appear as tiny black squares, although when I go in to edit the favourites, they're all still shown as whatever icon I set them as. Last week there was a software update available, so I did that, and it seems to have been since then that they haven't been showing up. Any suggestions?

This is a known issue with the latest 13xx/14xx model firmware (v5.30). Garmin is aware of the issue so hopefully it'll be fixed in the next release. I've no idea when that'll happen.

Nope just updated my nuvi 1450 sw ver 5.40 same issue
I have a nuvi 765t with this update and display correctly

CHINTO1955 i received that same answer about 2 month ago and i'm still waiting for a fix. so i hope Garmin release a new update ASAP. i was lucky and my local dealer gives me a new one when i ask for warranty and the new one came with 5.0 firmware so actually i don't have the problem but i do have some others regarding bluetooth that 5.4 corrects but im not going to update it til Garmin fix this issue.

I received a new unit in early May with 5.2 installed. Had this problem right from the start. Contacted Garmin and got the same "we know about it and will fix it". It's now five months and several upgrades later ... no fix.

Is this common with Garmin to ignore fixing a problem that essentially renders the unit unusable for the purpose it was purchased?

black icons - update maps without update software??!

Hi All,

I've had similar problems and runabout (including 2 replacement units) since July. It's good to know that one is not alone..

I stuck with old software v4.60 to be able see the icons.
Problem is, my 1-time map update is going to expire so I need to update my maps without touching the software version.

PLEASE does anyone know if I can do this?

Yesterday I tried the map update processing but got a shock and stopped everything when GarminMapUpdater.exe displayed something like "Updating Software"
Does GarminMapUpdater.exe really update the software also?

Much Appreciate any advice!

has been 6 month since a send this report to Garmin and still no solution for the problem.....this guys really take a long time to solve things

The fix (v5.70 software) is now out. Use WebUpdater to get it.
