I'm new here and have a question I hope you can help me with. I have a Colorado 300 in the box for a few years and decided to take it out and buy a Topo sd card for it. I bought the card from D-GPS.COM when it finally arrived I put it in the slot and it didn't work. So I called Garmin Directly and they had me upgrade with the USB to the computer and still nothing. I spoke with two techs two separate times and neither could help me to get it working, they even had me put it in my Digital media reader and it just said zero across the board it couldn't read it. Both techs told me it was either corrupt or blank. Now D-GPS.COM is telling me it works (I sent it back). Let me back up a bit I bought it, it didn't work and then couldn't get in contact with this company via email, or phone. It wasn't until the credit card got involved that they sent me a RMA# to return the card....So who do you think is telling the truth, Garmin or D-GPS.COM...my guess is Garmin....is there something I may have missed? This should just plug into your unit and work correct? Thank you in advance..Joe
If a simple card reader could not read the card, my guess would be the card may be bad. But as I said, it is a guess, not a hand-on fact.
What you can do is try downloading free topo maps from www.gpsfiledepot.com and see if those will work (they should) on your Colorado. At least this way you will know your hardware is working properly.
Thank you for your information. I 'm a newbie have had this unit in a box for a few years and have decided to start using it. Now will I need a blank sd card to do this? And what kind do I need? I think all sd cards do not work is that correct? Again Thanks....
I'd say get a 4gb card. Try avoiding eBay as a lot of cards there are cheap counterfeits, some work, some fail, at the most critical moment, of course... Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Amazon are places to look for them. Depending on your use, 2GB might suffice, but those cards are not very expensive nowadays. I believe the Colorado needs microSD cards, the small ones, the size of a fingernail. IF your GPS software is up to date, (download Webupdater from Garmin and make sure it is), it can take the 4gb, as far as I know, but I have not dealt much with Colorados.
