Training Effect in Garmin Connect

Former Member
Former Member
I used to be an avid Suunto user. Only because the linkage to first beat athlete was so good.

I was really excited to see the FR610 launched. But, neither Garmin Connect or Training Manager show TE anywhere.

I am assuming that Garnin will catch up with their software. Otherwise TE in the FR610 is a waste of time and money, and I'll go back to Suunto.

Disappointed.
  • Others, including me, have asked for this so fingers crossed.

Does the Suunto have training effect then?
  • I too would like to see this in Garmin Connect. Is this the place to request this, or is there a more direct way?

    training effect???

    Hey
Suunto has training effect?? well guess what so does Polar . Looks like its time for Garmin to step things up and get this very useful tool added for all of there HR monitors also. Any comment GARMIN ????
  • The integration on this feature is bizarre.

    1. The watch calculates TE and it is only visible on the watch, not in GC.
    2. In order to correctly calculate TE, you need to set an Activity Class.
    3. There is nowhere in the watch's settings to set an Activity Class.
    4. Bizarrely, you CAN set an Activity Class in Garmin Connect, under Settings/Personal Information.
    5. This setting in GC is barely noticeable and hidden away. I bet most people have never noticed it. It is not mentioned at all in the 610 documentation that I can find.
    6. There is no information or documentation that says that the Activity Class you enter in GC is ever sent to your 610, or that it is used in any way whatsoever. It's just a field that you can change.

I don't think the 610 uses activity class to determine TE.
  • yes, this has been clarified here: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=20163

Actually, here is the quote, the 610 does not use Activity Class in the Garmin Connect Settings but calculates this. Here is the quote from the other forum.

The Forerunner 610 does not use Activity Class as an input to the Firstbeat library, and as such does not receive this value from Garmin Connect. The Firstbeat implementation used by the 610 uses your training sessions to determine your Activity Class over time. (It doesn't actually output an Activity Class, but that is essentially what it is doing.) As you do more activities, Firstbeat will learn your fitness level, and produce more accurate TE values. (This has been discussed quite a bit in this thread.)

For those of you interested, FBA (Firstbeat Athlete will be compatible with the 610 in the next release, which I was informed should be this summer.

    training effect/training load

Hey Why go to First Beat when Garmin could just step things up and have it here on Garmin Connect and for all their watches just like Polar?
Time to keep up with the competitors Garmin---any feed back???
  • It seems to be that it would be simple to display the Training effect and then colour the day in the calendar view according to the range (green/orange/red) & so on.

    Come on Garmin :)

I agree if all these other companys can have TRAINING EFFECT on their sites seems to me it should not be much of a problem to overcome. I would love for someone from Garmin to let us users of their products know .
