editing connect

I am trying to get used to using the garmin and on my second use today I forgot to restart the timer after several stops resulting in what I am guessing inaccurate mileage totals by 7 miles. I verified this with my car odometer which is pretty darn accurate. At any rate the mileage in my uploads, training center and the unit are all off now. Can I edit the mileage or am I stuck adding notes for myself for reference and have to live with an inaccurate mileage total? I hope for a 250 dollar unit there is a simple fix, but I cannot see it, thanks.

    Hello Tim,

In Garmin Connect there are 2 options.

You can correct the data by making a "Manual Activity" leaving the original track alone. Click "Activities" tab and over on the far right on the "Quick Edit" bar is "Manual Activity". Give it a fake name and the correct date and a start time 30 minutes after the ride ended that you want to correct. Add the time and distance and then correct the time to get a reasonable average speed. That will update your total miles.

You can edit the ride that is incorrect. Open the ride in Dashboard. Just to the right of Summary click the pencil icon. Any changes you make will affect the totals but not the plot on the map or any of the graphs.

I like the Manual Activity method because then I know exactly what happened and what I did.

Garmin Training Center is much more difficult to correct. It involves editing the tcx file itself.

Besides fixing the 7 mile discrepancy, you should look into using the "auto pause" feature if available on your device. It seems like you said that you were stopping and restarting the timer whenever you stopped(?). If that's the case, with auto pause turned on, you won't have to remember each time.

For biking, I use auto pause with custom speed of 3 mph. Anytime speed is less than 3 mph, it assumes I am stopped. That helps in case I stop for a break and I wheel the bike around the break area. It doesn't start up again until I get on the bike and exceed 3 mph.

Thanks for the replies. I will try the manual activity method and see if that is what I need and I wasn't really aware of the auto on/off feature, thanks! Hopefully I will get used to the technology.
