GPSMap 62st transfer Problems

I have just recieved my new GPSMap 62st and up to now, iI am very pleased with its performance. However I am having trouble recieving waypoints and routes from the 62st.
Either using Mapsource, Basecamp and most importantly Memory Map (current version) I can create and transfer routes and marks into the 62st, however, the only thing I can transfer to my computer is the track that I have just created.
All the software Mapsource, Basecamp and MM are all current and up to date. The firmware on the 62st is the latest (v2.8) and I am running Windows 7.

Can anyone give me any answer to my problem?

many thanks in advance.
  • I don't know why it does not work, but try extracting the data with GPSBabel or G7towin (Google that) and then import the data wherever you need it.

    GPSMap 62st transfer Problems Update

Since my last post I have discovered that any waypoints (marks) stored on the unit seem to be grouped together in one gpx file. So the work around that I think I can use is to upload tha track, then having gone into the units gpx folder in windows loading the date titled gpx file into memory map.

However still cannot upload routes from the unit. The option (when I remember where it is) to rename the waypoint name from nunbers to letters should not make any difference, or should it?
  • Routes are a horse of a different color. Since Mapsource/BaseCamp calculate the route on their ow, and so does the 62s/st each has a different "solution" so when you send them to the GPS sometimes the route is different from the planned one and I bet something like that happens on the opposite, so it might not even be possible to send a route back. Frankly, I don't use routes that often, as I consider them to be problematic.

    GPSMap 62st transfer Problems

The import of routes is not really a high priority, however importing waypoints is. Compared to my Colorado 300 this 62st series gps seems to export them differently and as a result Memory Map cannot upload them.

A work around that I have found is go into the gpx folder in windows and open the relevant file manually.
  • I really have no problems at all as I'm using TopoFusion Pro and the transfers have been working just fine. Try out their demo.
