Oregon 400t won't boot

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong area, but I am at a loss of how to proceed here.
Came to turn on my Oregon 400t this afternoon and it would not start up. Got the Garmin welcome screen which then faded to nothing - none of the usual small print loading this and that.
Did the obvious of changing batteries (twice) but problem was still present. Anyone got any thoughts on where to go from here - is there something easy I can do, or is it a repair job?
Any thoughts and ideas wpould be gratefully received. Thanks
  • Google the Oregon wiki and check the discussions there, several ways to deal with it.
  • Many thanks SARLABS. Interestingly, I removed the batteries from the unit overnight and on reinserting them this morning, the unit started up as if nothing had happened. Really can't understand it, but it appears the problem has gone away. Have now updated all the software using the Garmin webupdater and everything appears to be working well.
Thanks also for the pointer to the wikispaces site - didn't know about this - and found a whole lot of useful information.
    Very grateful to you.
    Regards
  • Well, I hope you are lucky on this one. I had a 62s that did something similar to me while I was on a trip. Fortunately, that was my backup unit and after a few days, it started working again, like yours. Upon returning, it stopped working again, and despite all I tried, now armed with my computer and a bunch of ideas, but at the end, nothing worked and was exchanged by Garmin.
