As per what I can understand the 1490 comes with the feature to let you know ahead of time what the over head sign will show up as you drive and take the Exit # XX

does anyone know where I can see the list of the signs and also what highway they work for cause so far I don't see any as I drive around town.

PS: I'm in montreal Quebec Canada.

cheers

    1490 Lack of internal memory

Hi Cwarda, I also live in Montreal and I bought the Nuvi 1490lmt Feb 2011 from Costco. Was very happy with the unit and the Junction Views in the Montreal area.

Did my first firmware & map update when I first got the unit and I was able to download the full North American map with no problems.

When I did my last update, I was informed that there was not enough space because the unit only has 2 GB of memory. Even after removing unused voices and languages I could only download a partial map of North America. (Eastern Canada & Eastern States starting from Manitoba. On top of that Garmin had reduced the JCV file drastically.
I ended up losing most of the Junction Views in the Montreal area. I was not impressed. Very sneaky Garmin.

At this time a lot of Garmin owners started to contact Garmin and all they got was a run around. Sensing a huge consumer backlash, Garmin finally released a large full version of the JCV file claiming it was only for use with another model and it would not work with models like the 1490. Very sneaky Garmin.

Thanks to savy owners a temporary solution was found. The large JCV file could be downloaded to the micro SD card. (not included. I bought mine at The Source for about $16.00 for 8 GB) I got all of the Junction Views back!

I say this is only a temporary solution because the JCV file will only work with the latest map update. Let's hope Garmin will do the right thing and have a solution that will include the larger JCV file in their next update.

Here is a link for the JCV thread.
