Come on Garmin and add friend following.

I know this has be threaded to near death but....I have several Garmin friends (and would like to make more) and want to have a direct link to their workouts. Also add some type of minimalist comments (doesn't have to be a Facebook killer just basic). Also make Calendar (and Health) sharing. Don't we all (or most anyway) want to have people that inspire/compete with us easily found?

I guess. But not everyone takes the time to provide a title, and this seems to catch a lot of people by surprise. And I'm not sure what the problem with a bunch of untitled results would be. Whenever I've used the explore feature, I'm more interested in distance and starting point, but maybe that's me.

As someone else suggested in another thread, it might be nice if GC could give a more descriptive default title, perhaps based on the type of activity, date and time, and distance, e.g., "running_5-13-2011_1645". One of the other websites I use does this, and this would solve the untitled problem.

Yes, having a more descriptive default title, or maybe additional information not in the title (eg. use the GPS data to identify a town or zip-code) would be helpful. Or even have a filter that lets the user decide whether or not to include "Untitled" activities (instead of making it automatically exclude them)...
  • This can already be done easily.

If you know someone's name, it is easy to create a "Live Bookmark", also called an RSS feed from their rides.

Note that this also suffers from the unpublishable Untitled issue. But it works great for tracking your friend's activities.

So in the following URL, where I put OWNERNAMEHERE, replace that with your friend's Garmin Connect login and use that link to create a live bookmark or subscribe to the RSS feed in your reader.

    h t t p : / / c o n n e c t . g a r m i n . c o m /feed/rss/activities?feedname=Garmin%20Connect%20-%20Explore&explore=true&owner=OWNERNAMEHERE&sortField=beginTimestamp

So here is an example for the Original Poster's personal feed:

    http://connect.garmin.com/feed/rss/activities?feedname=Garmin%20Connect%20-%20Explore&explore=true&owner=julien321&sortField=beginTimestamp

I agree. Garmin should add a social layer on top the existing structure. This can be done without compromising the quality of Garmin Connect. I'd like to see a closer interaction with friends using Garmin Connect, eg. the challenge feature known from Endomondo, sharing runs, following (the rss-feed is not sufficient imo) and, well, just socializing more on Garmin Connect.

I would appreciate a possibility to send a message to the member whose route I like (not like and dislike as on Facebook) so I could ask him something. This feature could be user disabled or enabled.

Indeed, if Garmin adds a social layer to garmin connect, there will surely be more happy faces and users. Much to be improved in this area for Garmin.

    +1 on the friends following.

It would be nice to be able to have and create different groups of friends, have notifications about updates (that are editable by group/individual and can be turned on/off).

I feel this is one of the big missing features, I think if this was added, more people would make this home over some of the other sites.
