Garmin 405CX - unusable

I have managed, after many frustrating weeks, to get my Garmin working; sorted out the illegible small character screens on the 405CX and installed the software. Last weekend I managed to upload my first run. Great! Finally conquered an impossibly and unnecessarily complex product. Alas, today I went for a run, pressed all the buttons in the correct sequence (I now run with a user guide), got home, went onto Garmin Connect, pressed upload .... no new activity visible. Checked my 405CX, yes the activity is there, pressed upload again, still nothing. Any help gratefully received.

The real problem though, is a device that is overly complicated. Come on Garmin, surely for the idiots like me who buy your devices couldn't you just have a one button basic setup and leave the complicated stuff for the rocket scientists!

update: Just sorted out the problem. It seems you have to use the ANT Agent to download rather than Garmin Connect - its all a mystery to me but at least I have managed to download everything. Each run now takes 2 hours; 45 mins to run and 1 hour 15 mins to sort out thew technical bits. My goal is to improve on my 1 hour and 15 mins!
  • Alas I am not sure how to be constructive.

I have never had a problem with any Garmin device. I create a route on one of the many packages out there like Bikeroutetoaster, and that uploads to the device. I then 'do a course', press the start button and press it again when finished my ride/run. My computer uploads to GC simply when I plug in the devices (I have two).

Perhaps you should list out what all these steps are that you are taking - particularly the 'pressing all the buttons in the correct sequence' when out on your run - there is no need to press anything while out actually recording data.

I suspect you are probably just not starting the recording.
  • my girlfriend has one, doesn't the manual state that you need to reset the activity before it recognizes that your workout is complete for it to upload any new activity?
