OK, guess I'll have to try this again. First attempt to post failed.
New to this forum, nuvi 500 user. Bought the nuvi 500 because it is waterproof for use on my Honda Goldwing, and because it has capability to import custom routes from MapSource.
This has been a big disappointment on several accounts.
First off, I cannot import files from MapSource. There is not a micro SD card installed. Do I need one to import custom routes? It is my understanding that the SD card is needed for pictures, not custom routes.
I have followed the user manual instructions to the letter (I think): Created, named and saved file in MapSource: copied file, connected GPS to computer, navigated to device via Windows Explorer, pasted file in device folder. According to Windows Explorer, the custom route file is in the device. Yet, I cannot access it from the GPS after disconnecting from the computer.
Second problem is the touchscreen. Works just fine when the unit is on it's own battery power. However, as soon as I plug the unit in to external bike power, via the factory-provided plug hard-wired to bike power, the touchscreen freezes up. If I unplug from bike power, it works again, and I can plug back into bike power and it will continue to work.
Is there any fix to these frustrating issues other than just buying a new GPS?
BTW, this is the second nuvi 500. Garmin replaced the first one about a year ago. This one acts the same.
Thanks for any help on my newbie questions!
