etrex venture hc ver3.50

I have buy one etrex venture hc recently, I found that the latest unit software version is 3.30 on the Garmin website. So I try to update the unit software.
I notice that the unit software in my device is 3.50, but I still update the version to 3.30.
So, the problem is coming that, my device screen show nothing when power on. But the tone works.

I think this is because the version 3.30. I want to back to 3.50, but I cannot find the version 3.50.
  • Version 3.50 is probably a version that has not been released to the general public. All you can do now is to hope to get v.3.30 on your unit.

Try using Webupdater and see if it recognizes your GPS and then does the upgrade.

If not, reply to this thread and we'll see if there are ways to get you back on track.

    Thank you for your answer.

I have tried to use Webupdater, it can recognize my GPS, and my GPS can also be upgraded.

But after upgraded, the screen show nothing when power on.
The screen cannot show any symbols: menus, numbers, map...
However, the GPS data can be transfer to PC with MapSource, and the back light can also be changed by Power button.

It seems everything can work, except the screen.

Would you please provide me the version3.50, maybe version3.50 can solve this

    issue.
  • Well, I don't have v.3.50 as I don't work or represent Garmin in any way, shape or form. I'm just a user whose experience may be useful to others.

Try re-installing the firmware. If your screen remains unresponsive, you may then want to contact Garmin's support and see if they have a way to do things remotely. It seems to me that either the upgrade went bad or perhaps it was not an upgrade for this model eTrex.

I have tried re-installing the firmware v3.30 for several times, but the screen remains unresponsive.
I have contact Garmin's support, they will give the response in 3 business days.

Thank you for your help. :-)
  • See if that might help you. This is advice a user got from Garmin. Noit exactly what you describe but maybe it will allow you to re-nstall the firmware.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I will be happy to help you with
    this.

If your device is displaying the message Loader Loading during power up, the
file that is used to update your device may have become corrupted.

To fix this problem, please connect your device to your computer. Once
connected, your device will show up in "My Computer" as a drive. Then follow the
steps listed below to remove the update file from your device:

1.With the nuvi powered off, press and hold the upper left hand corner of the
    touchscreen with your finger
2.Continue to hold the touchscreen while pressing and releasing the power button
on the device. The Garmin Logo should display.
3.Continue to hold the touchscreen while connecting the device to your computer
4.After 30 seconds the screen should flash white. At this point release the
touchscreen. A green progress bar should display on the device. After the
progress bar completes (45-60 seconds) the device should go into Mass Storage
mode with the picture of a computer tower on the display of the device.
5.From your computer click the Start Menu
    6.Open 'My Computer'
7.Right click the Garmin nuvi drive that appears in My Computer
    8.Left click 'Explore'
9.Input ".system" (without quotations) into the Address bar and press enter.
10.Locate the file "GUPDATE.GCD", Left click to highlight it, and then delete it
11.Safely remove your device from your computer using the Safely Remove Hardware
program in your computer's system tray.

Allow your device to boot up normally. The device at this point should work
    normally.

Please run the Webupdater program again to update the device's software.
  • OOps, my last reply was meant to another post, sorry.

Have you tried a factory reset? It should fix it as long as it's not a hardware issue.
