Is there any way of extending the directions to add more detail?

I'm not sure what you mean by "extending the directions." Also, it's not clear what kind of detail you are interested in. I can think of several interpretations -- maps, data recording, route, and so on.

Your quite right, I should have been more precise. The situation is as follows:
I keyed in a rout from Steventon in Oxfordshire to Dorne in Scotland using, "Mapsource" and wanted to print a set of directions so that my wife/navigator could enjoy plotting the route as we drove along. I was disapointed at how sparse the detail of the directions were in that other rout making software gives much more detail so I wonderd if it was possible to tweek the software to give more detail to the direction sheet.

So I may assume that it is not possible to put more detail into a route?

Are you using a Garmin map that supports "auto routing" like a City Navigator map? Those maps give a lot of detail in the printed directions. Road names, distance to next turn, direction azmiuth, time between turns based on speed you select (car vs truck vs pedestrian), coords of the turns, etc.

I last used the Garmin Quest six years ago or so when I took a motor caravan round the coast of Britian to write a book on caming and caravan sites with a view of the sea and I have not used the Garmin since. I am learning how to use it again so I re-loaded the software. The mapping that I am using is in a box with the title, "City Select EuropeV6".
I built the route but was disapointed with the deatil in the "Directions" because there is other mapping software on the Web with much more detail although I suspect that when I am on the road with the GPS connected it will show much more as we drive along.

I have an older City Select USA v7 software and it has a lot of detail that will not show up on the screen until you zoom in to the "1 Mile" scale.

It also makes a difference on route detail by what you select for your preferences on the Routing tab. In MapSource click > Edit > Preferences > Routing > and play with the options.

Also pick 2 waypoints 40-50 miles apart and let the software "auto route" and see what happens as you change the Routing options..

Just a few ideas. They may be of no use on your v6.

I will give the idea a try. Many thanks.
