Oregon 550t Tracks

I can't find an appropriate forum to post this questions, so I will give this a shot.

I am having difficulty understanding how to get tracks to work properly. It seems that whenever I try to access an old track, I get this line shooting across from my old track to wherever I am currently located. What I want to do is see the location of the track, measure distance, etc, and stop and start the track.

For example, I want to walk a track around a clump of trees, so I can see where this clump of trees is on the map. How do I, a) start the track when I begin walking around the clump of trees, b) stop the track when I am done walking around the trees, c) save the track with an appropriate designation, and d) not have a line jutting out from the circle around the clump of trees, to wherever I am currently located, when I try to access this track file later?

Any advice is appreciated

If the 550 works like the 450...

    a) start the track when I begin walking around the clump of trees

main menu/track manager/current track - you will be asked if you want to turn on tracking. Or, main menu/setup/tracks/track log - select either 'record, do not show' or 'record, show on map'.

    b) stop the track when I am done walking around the trees

I believe to stop tracking you need to use the second option above and select 'do not record'. If you use the first option, you will have the option to save the track, but you will still be recording. And once you stop recording, obviously you have to navigate to 'current track' to save it (that should answer question c).

    d) not have a line jutting out from the circle around the clump of trees, to wherever I am currently located, when I try to access this track file later

Never seen this, although I have seen something similar. One of my saved tracks has a straight line from the end of the track to a waypoint 14 miles away. Why or how it got there I have no idea.
