Can I use the Garmin 12v rapid charger to charge my cell phone. I've seen the reverse, where people use a cell phone charger for the Garmin and it goes into PC mode. If the Garmin marketing pitch is true, the 12v rapid charger should put out more amps then a standard cell phone charger but so many more amps that it would damage the cell phone?
Okay, here's what I've found after getting the correct converters - mini female to micro male from EBay for a couple of bucks. Needed this to adapt Garmin charger. The Garmin charger worked fine, it's a 1.0 amp, more than my .7 amp cell phone charger. However, when I used a 12 volt to USB charger rated at 2.0 amps, the phone shut down. No damage to the phone but just wouldn't charge it. So there is an upper limit to how many amps the phone will handle. My phone is an LG Acolade VX-5600, a basic cell phone.
