Route requires travel through Area C??

The past few days while entering addresses and clicking 'GO' I keep getting a pop up message that reads "Route requires travel through Area C. Override Area C avoidance for this route?" If I click 'NO' then it just goes back to the main home screen. I have no idea what this even means. Anyone?

    Same situation

Earlier today, wife asked for route from Westerville, OH to Leesburg, VA and got the same response. Have been using the Nuvi 255W for 18 months now, and never saw that before. Installed software and map updates a couple of days ago. Googled "travel through Area C" and got a link to your post, a couple of hits on a robotics competition, and about 1000 hits referring to Palestinian areas of Israel.

I recently updated maps also and I'm getting the same message on my Nuvi 205W. When I google Area C Garmin I get answers from it's in Israel to it's in Las Vegas.......I'm trying to set a location in California.

So what is Area C? I'm guessing it's an area that has no coverage? If so, why not?

I found a Garmin reference to Area C Avoidance, which indicates that it should pertain only to Israeli maps. It is in the Change History notes for Garmin Nuvis 13xx and 14xx series, at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4551

Corrected an issue that could cause the Area C warning to not display properly when using Israeli maps.

In your Nuvi screen where you can select avoidances such as U-turns, toll roads, ferries, etc., is Area C Avoidance included in your list? There was reference to that as well in another online forum. Here is the link to that short discussion: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=135088

If your avoidance list does include Area C, maybe toggling that selection might make the warning stop appearing? In any event, I think that you should email Garmin Support to report the issue.

One other thought comes to mind ..... are you using the most current version of firmware?
  • Also started happening on my Nuvi 260W when I updated it about 6 months ago. Never happened in the 4 years prior to this update. It now has Software Version 7.60 GPS SW Version 4.10b and AMR AutoRoute Basemap NR 2.00.
  • Also, my Map Info is CN North American NT 2013.30 [1] US & Canada
