I stumbled onto Garmin connect, and previously didn't know it existed. Seems to be a great tool, but I don't understand the elevation data after loading some of my tracks. My GPS has an altimeter. With the elevation correction either on or off, the elevation graphs are very similar, but the elevation gain and loss seems to be completely different. Gain and loss is to be the cumulative gain or loss through the entire track, right? If this is the case, then the value seems correct with elevation correction turned off. I just don't understand why the great difference particularly since I had the track recording set to a high frequency (1/100 of a mile).
For one of my tracks, I added up as best as I could the gain by making use of the elevation plot. For one track with elevation enabled, the gain noted is 63, but when I add it up from the plot I get 310. For another track with elevation disabled, the gain noted is 800, and when I add it up from the plot I get 800.
