FR 60 not displaying heart rate

After a recent software update my display only shows elapsed time when the mode button is pressed and does not show the heart rate. Consequently, when I stop and reset there is no heart rate information in my activity log, only elapsed time show. Same goes when I upload the activity to Garmin Connect.

Just guessing here but put a new battery in and try "pairing" the strap again.

If that does not work remove the battery and press it back in backwards for a few seconds to reset the strap. Put the battery back in correctly and "pair" again.

If you have a buddy with the same strap (does not matter what unit he has only the type of strap matters), that works on him, try "pairing" your FR60 to his strap. He can even be using it. Just take off your strap and leave it 30-40 feet away while "pairing" and your watch should show the same HR as his.

If still no HR reading I would run the update again. A couple update electrons might have gone to the moon instead of your FR60 and screwed up the unit. Good Luck
  • Thanks Don, I've tried all of your suggestions but none have worked. I am a bit confused though in that I don't know how to pair the chest strap with the FR60. I tried having my chest strap in another part of the house while tying to use my girlfriend's chest strap which is identical to mine. No help.

This appears to be a display issue of sorts. On my FR60 display there is no pulsing heart indicating it is trying to communicate with another device. There is a pulsing wireless indicator at the bottom of the display and it is communicating with my laptop.

The elapsed time indicator is centered (top to bottom) on my FR, unlike it used to be located more toward the top. There is no "place holder" for the heart rate like there used to be, and like my girlfriend's FR.

Nearly forgot to state that I've downloaded and installed all of the software available. When trying to re-install the last FR update the site tells me my software is up to date and does not allow for a re-install

For grins I did a complete reset of the FR and everything seems to be working with the exception of no heart rate information.

Well here is another wild guess

Your watch probably does not need a new battery but taking it apart and leaving it without juice for a bit might reset it. I do that with my cell phone and HP48 when they get weird. I have 3-4 FR50's and get the batteries changed at Sears Watch Repair. The 50's only last about 6-8 months for me and Sears gives me a 3 year free battery replacement. They think I'm scamming them but when the "Low Bat" pops up they fix it. Still costs $10 for labor.

Be sure to tell the guy to leave it set 15-20 minutes with no battery.
  • a duhh moment

While fine tooth combing of the user manual I discovered that I had not set the heart rate monitoring to on.

    Press MODE>SETTINGS> SPORT.
Select RUN, GENERAL, or BIKE > HEART RATE, FOOT POD, or BIKE SENSOR > ON.

    duhhh!

Thanks for all your help Don.

Well I'm glad it was a simple fix. I was out of wild guesses! :D
