Forerunner 305 heart rate monitor problem

I'm having a problem where my 305 gets stuck at certain values and doesn't update appropriately. You can see it here on Garmin Connect; scroll down to the heart rate chart:

Notice the flat spots. By comparison see

I can tell when it's working properly because when I look at the watch the heart rate is always changing slightly. When it's not working it's stuck at some value.

I've tried tugging sideways up or down on the chest strap and that seems to get it going again.

I've tried shaving my chest where the chest strap is but that hasn't helped.

Any advice?

    Hi

Please note i'm no expert but looking at your graphs and paces I see:

The dynamic graph (no flat line) pace is 15:11 min/mi and the example graphs with the flat line are at 18:16 min/mi pace. This shows that the activities are contrasting that of warm up vs cooldown and how hard you are having to work.

The flatter area settles at 88bpm and if at this point you then waggle/bang you monitor this will raise your heart rate the very act of doing this will also raise you heart rate and change watch display giving the illusion that you have gotten the monitor working again. However you may find it settles again in this instance 88bpm for the work your asking your body to do. Btw in both example graphs the is 88bpm.

To prove/disprove this either way I would slow down again and see if the heart rate drops below the stuck value and also increase speed to see if it raises above. You would need to take account for hills but the course you use is very flat but key is to compare like for like efforts course routes and then you should be able to comfirm if its updating appropriately for the task you are performing.

That aside I would clean the contacts and wet them too before use and also perhaps check the fit. Anyhow im no expert but the test may prove if in fact the watch gets stuck on a figure.
