How is speed calculated? (Nuvi 660)

When I select the speed display on my Garmin GPS, how can I know the accuracy?

I understand that most accurate speed is calculated via doppler shift measurement from satellite signals.

The lesser-accurate way to calculate is to simply by the change in distance over time.

Which is speed calculation method is used in my Nuvi 660?

Thanks,
Dave

How is speed calculated? (Nuvi 660)

Just received an e-mail reply from Garmin. I had inquired about the method of calculating the displayed speed of the vehicle:

"...the speed that is displayed in your device is a product of the time and distance calculation, for all automotive devices."

So apparently Garmin doesn't use doppler-shift speed calculation for any of its automotive GPS's.

    Thanks,
