My plane is wired for the 496. will the same connector work to plug in the 696 or another up
gaded unit?

496 to 696

The units have different connectors.

496 has a 1.5 amp fuse and the 696 has a 4 amp fuse.

Depending on how it was wired into the aircraft you may have
to change the circuit protection if it was installed.
