My GPS does not get the signal quickly!

I just bought a nuvi 1450 LMT last week. The problem with it is it takes a lot of time to get the signal (even cannot get a signal). I get into my car, turn on the GPS and select the destination. However, sometimes it takes so long to calculate the route, some times it is fast. I park my car in a parking lot for a school campus outdoor, therefore there is no high buildings around, but it still cannot get signal. It always have 1 red bar or a cross over the signal bars.
Some other times it gets the signal and calculates the route pretty fast. I'm thinking about using map quest to find the way until my GPS picks up signal.
Anyone knows how to solve this?

I do not have a 1450 so I am just guessing here but it might be the settings. Make sure the 1450 is set for car and not pedestrian and paved roads and fastest route. Hope you get it sorted out.
