Nuvi 1350... refurbished unit purchased off Amazon

Connects to myDashboard just fine...
Software updates work
Can detect device and read serial number

When I fill in registration information and submit, I get the following error (consistently):

An HTTP 500 Error has occurred.

The server has encountered an unknown error.

We apologize for this unexpected behavior.

Any assistance?

    Problem - SOLVED

I think this problem is solved!...Just had to think a bit as to why the server could have been giving me a server-side error.

Seems that if you have two Garmin accounts and lets say they were registered to different e-mail addresses but later you change them to the same e-mail address then what happens is that Garmin's web server does a look-up in the database but obviously sees two accounts with the same e-mail address and hence returns that error. I presume they use the e-mail address as a primary key/field in registering your device.

Anyways, Mike I would suggest checking that you haven't maybe got an old Garmin account from long ago or that perhaps changing your e-mail address under you Account preferences might fix the issue. It appears that if two different Garmin account have the same e-mail address under their account settings that this error will occur.

Normally during registration of your account it would not be possible to use an e-mail address that has been used before but it appears once it is registered to an account there is nothing preventing you from sharing one e-mail address with two different accounts.

Perhaps they should do a look-up in their database before allowing you to change your e-mail address to one that is already in the database.

    Good luck!

I am running IE9 beta as of 2/14/2011.

After an hour's worth of frustration trying to register - I found a solution by trial and error.

I tried to update JAVA, and in the process IE9 gave me a "compatibility mode" error box. I clicked on the compatibility mode at the top of the current page, and everything started working just as it should.

My device was detected, downloaded the Map Updater software and it found and loaded a software update and a new map.

    Whew....
