I had been looking forward to getting the ecoRoute HD module since before chosing the Nuvi 1390LMT. I finally received it last week, but am very disappointed to find it does not work with my vehicles, despite both being listed as compatible in the website.
In my Peugeot 206SW 1.4HDi it connects, but does not provide any information on fuel consumption - the reason I wanted it. Although some of the gauges function, the 'Current Fuel Economy' circle is completely missing - as if there was no ecoRoute HD module connected. And 1 time in 4 when I start the car, the Nuvi tells me it detected a new vehicle and asks me to re-enter the fuel consumption data.
In my Citroen C3 1.4HDi it could not connect to the vehicle at all.
Garmin support tell me:
"... the features that will
transmit and actually show on your Eco route HD will depend on the car
manufacturer. The different manufacturers and cars will output different
data for the Eco route HD. So not every feature will work on every car,
its dependant on cars. So the Eco route doesn't sound faulty, ..."
I will be returning it to the retailer for a refund under the Sale of Goods Act, as I believe it to be falsely advertised as the fuel consumption was listed as a selling point. These should not be listed as compatible on the Garmin website.
From http://gbr.garmin.com/ecoroute-hd/how-it-works/how_ecoroute_hd_works.html (25/01/2011):
Monitor your fuel economy
ecoRoute HD uses the OBDII buss to monitor the engine computer then uses this data to work out your fuel economy. Even if your car does not have a dashboard computer.
