No detail on GPS maps, and can't download maps onto MapSource.

I bought Australia/New Zealand v3 Garmin Topo maps on micro SD card from EBay from a seller in Canada who seems to be a reputable seller, but when I inserted the card into my Oregon 550 and enabled and viewed it there's no roads, buildings, contours or any detail on the maps, and I can't or don't know how to load the maps into my MapSource PC program for some reason, can anyone tell me how to do this? The card was posted on it's own in a small plastic case with no instructions. Should it have a product key, and if so how do I get it? Is there a way to access more detail on this product such as by 'unlocking' it, or by changing the settings on my GPS? Also, I downloaded some Australian topo free maps from the internet called 'Shonkymaps' and a trial version of 'OzTopo' - these look fine on Mapsource on my PC but have no detail whatsoever when viewed in my Oregon 550 GPS. Why is that? Thanks.

SD card maps cannot be downloaded into Mapsource, they only show on the GPS. From what I know they do not have a key or unlock and can be moved to any GPS, but I have never purchased a card, only DVD versions. Only the DVD maps can be installed into Mapsource..

When in the GPS, what setting do you have for detail? On some GPSs you can have at minimum or off.

Other than that, you likely have to take the issue up with eBay. In my experience Garmin will not support eBay purchases.

I've had the detail set to 'most' which is the highest. Other than that I don't know what other setting to try. What is GPS mode? The options are normal, WAAS/EGNOS, and demo. Ive had it set to normal. And what about Interface, what does that mean? The options are garmin spanner, garmin serial, NMEA In/Out, text out, and RTCM. I've tried a couple of these but can't tell the difference.
I've got a feeling the problem is with the GPS because my downloaded version of 'Shonkymaps' and a trial version of 'OzTopo' has the same problem - they look fine in MapSource but not detail at all on the GPS screen. Everything else about my GPS seems to work fine, so I don't think it's 'broken'. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
