My older data stored in Connect has been trashed (data 6/28/2010 or prior)

It appears that my activities prior to June 28, 2010, have been stripped, in one way or another.

It varies depending on whether I had manually changed the Activity Name.

For the activities that are still "Untitled", map and chart data is gone.

For the rides where I had changed Activity Name, the category was mysteriously changed from Cycling to Uncategorized. Elevation Gain disappeared. And the total calories was dropped. And the device type became "unknown".

If I click on Activities and scan through page by page, i can see where Elevation Change has disappeared in some activites, and where Total Calories has disappeared in others.

I have run some test reports and found that now my historical reports are garbage because all of that mess has affected the reports.

This looks like something recent to me. I wonder if this creative data manipulation occurred during the last "sheduled maintenance". (?) Not acceptable. I'm glad that I also loaded my data to Training Center. It looks ok there. I might have to create a new account and reload everything there if this is not corrected by Garmin.
  • Activity Data lost , (Motionbased non-migration)

I hope you manage to get your activity data back.

Please note DO NOT store your data only on Connect.

    Its predecessor was MotionBased.
We were promised that all of the data would be transferred from there to Connect.
I was told every time I enquired to be patience it would be transferred:

On 9 Nov 2010, at 15:00, Garmin wrote:

All but less than one percent of the activities originally uploaded there have been migrated to Garmin Connect. We regret that some remaining activities stored at MotionBased cannot be migrated at this time, and you're one of a few users who have activities still housed at MotionBased...
...More site enhancements are in store, and we're excited to continue making the user experience better at every turn." LOL

There were over 100 activities from between March and October 2007, that they LOST as I was in that 1% ( I fortunately have them backed up)
How many others lost data despite their promises.

Every one please every one do nor rely on connect to keep your data safe what ever they say.... BACK UP NOW

    you have been warned.

My issue didn't even involve Motionbased.

My stripped activities were from March through June of 2010. None were completely deleted. But GPS data was stripped from any activity where the name was not changed from "untitled." And calories data and possibly other fields were dropped from renamed entries.

I emailed the info to Customer Support and was told that it was being forwarded to the Connect team for review. It seems like something that must have happened to other people as well.
  • I was just posting a warning as NOT to rely on connect holding your data securely.

I have spot checked "untitled" activities during your date range and find that mine do contain gps data.

Did you ever figure this out? I am missing map and chart data from my Ironman bike ride dated Nov 2009. That's the only workout I noticed that was trashed. :-(

No,I never did hear more about it from Garmin, and the data was never restored.

The summary data was intact for running my summary reports across 12 months, so that was not affected.

I also had my data stored in Training Center, so for the activities where I did want to go back and look at detail, such as for Saturday charity rallies, I deleted the Connect entry and brought the data over from Training Center.

My regular weekday rides around our city lake didn't need to be copied from Training Center.

So I strongly advise keeping data in more than one place. In addition to Training Center, I now also copy all history files to a backup folder prior to deleting from my device. I do this about once a month.
