Nuvi 765T a little over a year old. When a destination is selected and the satellite is obtained, my Nuvi no longer gives me voice prompts about turning, etc. I have checked everything in the manual and can't find any reference to how to fix this. Any Help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Yes, I did check to insure that mute was not selected and that the volume was adquate. That was my first thought. Then I turned it off for a few minutes and turned it back on. No luck.
However, I did not do a RESET because I was concerned about losing all of my data. Am I correct that I would lose all my data stored in my Nuvi?
Here is something else to check. Does your nuvi have FM transmitter capability?
If so, make sure that your FM transmitter is turned OFF (page 42 of the manual).
Also I did a general web search for "garmin nuvi no voice prompt", and that found a couple of discussions in other forums. You might want to look at those.
One good idea suggested was to go into the language setting menu and click on "restore" there. That would return only the voice module to the factory defaults.
Gerrycam, thank you so much for all of your efforts to help me. You were right in that a hard reset fixed the problem. To complete your vast knowledge on this subject, I thought you'd like to see the verbatim instructions Nuvi sent me (essentially what you said: do a hard reset.):):)
From Nuvi: "Please perform a Master Reset. To do a Master Reset on a nuvi 700 / 705 series device please follow the steps below: Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.
1. Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power
2. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
3. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON
4. Release the power button when the device powers ON
5. You will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?
6. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays
7. Touch Yes
The device will automatically reset. Follow the on screen prompts on the nüvi and when completed place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites. "
