Social Networking in GConnect

We all know that working out with a friend makes a huge difference in your intensity, regularity, effectiveness, enjoyment...etc.

We can't always do it though but it would be great to keep track of each other virtually. The 'public' function for garmin connect to show tracks etc doesn't really enable friends to connect very well.

What I'd really like to see is a social networking function built in to Garmin Connect that allows me to 'friend' other people that use the service. It should allow people to share their calendars and activities dashboard with each other and even post messages on their dashboard for the owner/other friends to see.

With that, I could encourage a friend to get out more if I see they are lagging, or congratulate a friend on achieving a goal. This ought to be built in to Garmin Connect (not just an integration with another social networking site). Look at mapmyrun for basic social networking functionality.

thanks for considering it.

I joined this forum specifically to ask this question.

I second this. It would be nice to keep track of my friends, as well as to have the ability to meet other runners in my area. I'd like to have a community of people in my area that I can support/be supported by.

Of course, I'm sure there are a lot of people that are content with Garmin Connect as it is; these people should have the option to opt out of using it as a social network/being viewed publicly.
