Full Screen Maps

Whether google or bing, I'd like to option to take the map to full screen. (Without using google earth.)
  • When I start with Google it deosn't go full browser screen but only about the same size as the original. It works fine when I start with Bing and I can then switch to Google and it still stays full browser but I can't start with Google. Is this normal?

Do you get blank space around the map? In that case it may be the map is not reacting to the resize event. Try to just resize your browser window a little to see if that helps.

You can use this bookmarklet I have created to resize the map to cover the whole browser window.

Bookmark link and instructions are on this page:
    http://www.beroni.us/fullscreen-map-bookmarklet-for-garmin-connect

It works on the activity page but not on the dashboard page right now.

Thanks for this solution (.....but Garmin can't add one simple button?)

This is great with google maps, I have to tweak the window size to get it to refresh full size though. I think it may have messed up the bing map functionality though, the small map now floats above its frame. Deleting prefs, deleting your app, emptying the cache, reinstalling the browser hasn't changed that. Not a bing map fan anyway but it picks me that this is now broken. As the creator of the bookmarklet, any ideas as to why this has occurred and what should be done to fix it?

Nevermind, using an esoteric browser (opera). Looks good but just not up to par. Your applet works great in Safari, nice work it's a great enhancement.

I have now updated the bookmarklet code to trigger a resize event that makes Google Maps recognize that the size of the map has changed.

+1 for full screen maps. I can't believe it didn't make it in to this last huge update. I was so sure... Well that's +1's on every full screen map thread I can find. Now to cross my fingers for another 3 years hoping...
  • The bookmarklet mentioned earlier in this thread had stopped working properly due to changes on Garmin Connect.

I have now changed the bookmarklet to add a fullscreen control button to the map. When clicked the map will be truly full screen, not just the entire browser window. Also, the page is now intact after the full screen map is closed.

You will find the updated bookmarklet here: https://johanberonius.github.io/fullscreen-maps/garmin-connect/

Note that this still might not work with the new design, I haven't tested since the new design isn't activated for my profile yet. But once it is I will be able to update the code without you having to recreate the bookmarklet.
  • I have updated the full screen map feature to work with both classic and modern activity pages served over secure HTTPS.
I have also added an option to install this feature as a user script if you have an add-on for that in your browser. That way it will work automatically every time you visit an activity page.
Updated script and instructions are here: https://johanberonius.github.io/fullscreen-maps/garmin-connect/

I also want this feature please. It's pretty annoying having the map view restricted so much, especially in satellite mode where there is a lot of detail and you want to zoom in but still see the whole route
