Problem with maximum cadence

Hi,
I noticed that the "maximum cadence" of a ride (after uploading it in GC), is way too high. This is true for every ride I do. It reports values of 208 and 212, which can't be true, because I would have noticed this during the ride. The funny thing is that the cadence graph in the middle of the screen, does not show this peek, the graph shows the real values that were registered during the trip. Anyone else has experienced this problem? Is there a solution for it? I use the Edge 800 in combination with a GCS-10.

Do you sometimes coast with the pedal magnet remaining near the sensor?

Others have reported that this causes a spike in the cadence reading.
  • No, not that i'm aware of.... but the strange thing is that the cadence graph in GC doesn't show any spikes at all, only the overview data on the left. Take a look at this example, so you know what i mean....

I see what you mean. The coasting issue is the only thing that I can think of though.
  • yeah, but when it's indeed the coasting issue, the high values should be also appearing in the graphs? Anyway, I'll try to keep the left pedal upwards instead of horizontal, let's see if it helps. thanks for the tip!

Well I did try it once on my bike. I was pedalling along and thinking about having read that in the forum. So as I was watching on my screen, I held my pedal steady, and I saw a large cadence appear, and when I saw that I immediately moved my foot so as not to mess up my history.

Luckily for me, in my case it had shown up on my screen but did not get picked up in smart recording.

So with these devices all things are possible I guess. :)
