Swim Mode

Is there a swim mode in the garming 310XT? I read in the garmin website that if you update the software version you can select a swim mode and it would gauge swim distance and speed correctly. I did the recent software update but still no swim mode appears to me. Is there a problem with my watch?
Choose "other" as your sport. When you upload your activity to Garmin Connect, change this activity to swim, and it will process the data and try to extract the actual distance you swam. Note that this will only work outdoors when you're getting at least a bit of GPS reception.
