Position and Map not the same

I would bet that his has been discussed a few times but I could not find a thread that talked about it recently. My problem is that I just bought a Dakota 20 with the My Topo 100k maps. After I downloaded the maps and was playing around with them I am consistently not on the road that is showing on the map. For example, I live at the end of a street that I can planely see on my map but it shows my position as on the street to the west of where my house is. If I drag the push pin to where my house would be on the map I am about 430 feet off the correct position. I hope I am making sense. I am admittedly not very tech savy and I am new to the gps but I would think these maps would be better than that. Thanks in advance for any info, Greg.

Forget the Topo 100K maps. Go to www.gpsfiledepot.com and download the 24K topos you need for your state/area. You'll be much happier.
