Zumo 665 Problems

I have owned my Zumo 665 for about six months now, and I have been having trouble ever since I first used it in a couple of areas.

The maps for the area I live in are at least 10 to 15 years old. They show streets as through-streets when they are either no longer there or are dead ends. I don't know enough about the zumo 665 to know if I can edit the maps to reflect the changes I know about, but I am, quite frankly, a bit afraid to take a long trip with the unit on my trike because of these problems.

The "Where am I?" area of the unit lists the nearest police station about 50 miles away with the next one being 79 miles away. Both cities are considerably smaller than the one I live in. Our local police are not listed. The other two areas "gas" and "hospitals" seem to be okay. Is this a map issue or a unit issue?

On a recent trip I was riding on the Interstate and my unit kept telling me to exit at the next exit only to show me to cross over to the "on" ramp and re-enter the Interstate. This happened at every exit along that route.

The unit frequently tells me to be prepared for a turn in the wrong direction only to correct itself when I get close to the turn. Fortunately, I know what is the "right" direction to turn.

On the Interstate ramp system in my hometown, after the unit requested that I exit the road (at the wrong exit, I might add), it assumed I had done it and that I was on the service road which runs paralell to the elevated Interstate. The unit then kept telling me to make turns, appropriate to the service road, but impossible to make on the ramp. I should point out I have a strong signal from the satellites during all of this.

I have been in contact with tech support through the phone and email, and they have been unable to diagnose what's wrong other than to suggest I have a map issue that I need to report on the map vendor's sight (which I had done several months ago) only to find that the latest map update had *none* of changes I submitted.

I purchased the Garmin for about $1.400 which includes the cost of the mounting hardware for my Honda trike. I purchased it for two reasons: 1) The Garmin name. I am a pilot and have used Garmin aviation equipment for years and have the highest regard for its quality. I assumed that this attention to quality would be there in the Zumo 665, and I was quite surprised when it wasn't. 2) The Garmin unit is designed to be used on a motorcycle. It wasn't just a car unit (although it can be used that way).

I really am disappointed in this unit. I can't return it because the vendor won't take it back after a certain period of time (I was troubleshooting during that time). Also, I like the unit otherwise. XM radio and NavWeather are perfect for long trips.

Is there anything anyone can suggest I can do to move these map issues to the front burner and get Garmin's attention on the other problems so I can get these issues resolved?

Thanks.

My unit will tell me I missed my turn when there is no turn and if I want to recalculate.
I would also like to say how disappointed I am in how it handles adding additional maps to A SD card. You can only put one map per SD card. So now you need to Carry A library of cards with you if you like riding your Motorcycle on and off road. As an example, if you load one of the topo maps on a SD card it creates a file called Gmapsupp. If you load another file on that card it over rights the Gmapsupp with another Gmapsupp, and delete the other map file. So one Map for each SD card. If you do load A topo map, or state parks map, or any other map you may want on to an Micro SD card you will lose the data from City Navigator, the to will not work together.
My Garmin 60csx will let you flip through the additional maps you have loaded on your device SD card without having to, take off the back, remove the battery, remove the small micro card chip and try to instal the new micro chip on the side of the Hwy or mountain road, make sure there is no wind and dirt blowing around while you have your unit apart.
When I bought this I thought I would get all the features that my GPSmap 60CSx plus the bells and whistles.
I have at least 4 phone call to support, escalating it up the ladder to get the above information. I would definitely not consider this to be a adventure type of GPS, and it is not worth the money you have to pay for it.
