Why did Garmin moderator LISAFOX16 close the thread "Thank you Garmin for destroying Garmin Connect!!!"?

After DAVID_VCS posted a really bad/nasty reply, LISAFOX16, quoted that nasty reply (Huh!), before closing the whole thread. That is what I call really bad moderation and I would even go as far as saying it childish moderation. Like a book having a swear-word on page 854, so therefor LISAFOX16 needs to ban and burn it.

PS
Garmin Connects move to Bing is really bad, armageddon bad.

She should have removed the offensive post (and yes, it was very inappropriate and should have been removed), but doubt her move to close the string was the right thing to do.

BING maps are primitive and completely non updated in my country. A huge step back for Garmin. Let´s unite and ask for google maps back!!!
    Garmin, you are killing GarminConnect!!!:mad::mad::mad:
  • I closed the thread because of the last reply. There are numerous other Bing threads that anyone can post to.
  • I am no means a shill for Garmin, but you guys really need to get over the switch. I mean it's like someone shot your dog. OK, bad analogy. Yes, it sux, and yes it was a very stupid move from the consumer's perspective, and I am sure that Garmin is realizing this - or at least I hope they are. But there are numerous alternatives to GC, and they have more than heard our voices (here, blog, twitter, fb, calls, emails, etc...). I think the over-the-top rhetoric (using the words like "destroying", and saying someone should be shot) only goes to further harm our creditability as smart consumer's. Ones who will vote with our wallets on our next device. And come on, GC is not all that great that this switch destroyed it....get over yourself, and be glad you have the time, and resources to complain about something so inconsequential to our lives.

EDIT: And yes, I agree with her closing the thread and she should ban the poster....

    a) The main reason GC users continue to voice their concerns here is that no one at Garmin has bothered to even try to address the concerns raised by their customers or even acknowledge that many customers are upset by the switch to an inferior mapping service.

    b) Censorship is never a good thing.

You might want to refine your understanding of what censorship really is.

The closing of a single thread that contained a highly offensive, threatening post on a private forum -- owned, hosted, and paid for by Garmin! -- is clearly not censorship. In fact, the offending post is a clear violation of the terms and agreements that the poster agreed to when he or she created an account:

    http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/products/home/terms-of-use

Furthermore, within these forums, Garmin has allowed multiple threads, containing hundreds of posts criticizing them: that clearly is NOT censorship.

Go ahead and complain that you don't like Bing maps, and whine that you're so mad you're going to Polar or Suunto, but don't play the censorship card when it clearly doesn't apply.

    100% agreed.
  • +1... not only does a post such as that not belong in anywhere I want to be, the whole fuss about Bing maps is getting over the top. Yeah, I too prefer google maps. But jeez, life goes on. GC is not that important a part of my life that I can't deal with a change in map architecture.

+2. I also agree Google maps are better Bing but Bing is still acceptable on a free resource such as GC. Garmin had their own business related reasons for changing and it's their business to run (if we had to pay for GC and they made the change I'd be up for a robust response but we don't have to pay). Other free / subscription sites for uploading data are available if people so choose.

It's not a free resource. Garmin Connect is a described feature of the Forerunner 310XT that I paid nearly 300 quid for. Having previously owned a Forerunner 305 I was happy to pay the money because the 305 had been a good product for several years, and from it's initially dreadful inception, Garmin Connect had matured into a good feature for which I was happy to pay for.

The features of the Forerunner 310XT are listed on the product website, one of which is Garmin Connect. Now I'm sure someone is going to come along and tell me that Google Maps isn't one of the features, but at the time of purchase I was already using Garmin Connect, and therefore expecting to be still using it a couple of months later.
