Bing Maps....

Any chance Garmin can flesh out their reasoning behind the move from Google to Bing for mapping?

Garmin has already it seems admitted that Bing isn't as good as Google but they also ALLUDED to their being other reasons that forced them into the change.... anyone from Garmin care to say what those 'other' reasons are?
Cheers

I am also frustrated by Garmin's switch to Bing maps and would appreciate an explanation. Most of my riding is in Bermuda, and according to Bing we only have 2 roads!

Have you run across any alternatives that allow the use of Google maps?
  • Use the search facility of this forum and you'll find heaps of alternatives. Or use Google!

    The installed topo map

I have just acquired a refurbished Oregon 400t. I do not know whether the installed topo map is a Bing map. The map which is installed in this unit is not a functional one. This map is of no use to me and, by bundling this map, Garmin has sold me junk.
I set a very-accurate WAAS-enabled waypoint for a sidewalk intersection, adjacent to a street intersection. On the topo map, this waypoint is being displayed about 60 feet southwest and on the wrong side of the street.
I discussed this problem w/Garmin Support. They state that the waypoint would be displayed accurately relative to such things as contour lines. However, apprently the roads are on another layer, are overlaid and are not accurate. So, I am to understand that the waypoint is displayed accurately and the roads are drawn in incorrect locations.
I understand that this map problem can not be/will not be fixed by Garmin.
